India Lifts The Cricket World Cup 2011

India won the World Cup Cricket 2011 by defeating Sri Lanka by 6 wickets. Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first. Sri Lanka batting first started off badly with an average run rate of around 3 but they ended up with a competitive score of 274. India needed 275 to win the match and the cup. India too started badly after loosing two early wickets of Sehwag and Sachin. But it was Gambhir and the Indian skipper Dhoni who guided India to the victory. Gambhir played a brilliant innings of 97 runs and Dhoni played an unbeaten innings of 91 runs. Finally India reached the targeted score. Dhoni was declared the Man of the match and Yuvraj was declared the Man of the tournament for his all round ability. India lifted the World Cup again after 28 long years. The team members dedicated the cup to Sachin, as this was his last World Cup venture. The Indian players picked up Sachin on their shoulder and went around the field once. This was also the farewell match for the Indian coach Gary Kirsten. The celebration went late up to the midnight for the Indian players but for the 121 crore Indians, the celebration went for a long time. In between the mean time, a controversy raised over the World Cup trophy. Different media claimed that the presented trophy was not the original World Cup trophy. ICC in a press meet clarified that the trophy was really a duplicate one as the original trophy was with Mumbai Custom Department. They claimed deposit money of 15 lacs from ICC but ICC refused to pay the money as so ICC presented the duplicate trophy, which they claim to be the Match Trophy. Whatever it might be, it was a fabulous moment for the Indians and we are proud to get a new world champion after two World Cup.
